This project demonstrates how thoughtful planning and detailing can bring classical architecture back into contemporary residential design—especially through a refined classical home elevation that makes a lasting statement on a corner plot.
Planning for the Family
The ground floor of this 40 ft × 50 ft corner home is designed as a compact 2BHK with parking and landscaping that extends visually to the first floor through the external staircase.
On the first floor, the lobby features an internal staircase placed compactly to support circulation for the duplex home. Being a north-west facing house, the interiors feel bright, open, and airy. A living area cut-out enhances the sense of luxury from the inside.
This level accommodates the guest bedroom, a north-east Puja space with landscape pockets, and a spacious island kitchen.
The terrace includes additional usable space with landscape and seating pockets
Spatial Experience Through 3D Visuals
The open-plan arrangement on the first floor features a staircase with skylight provisions, future-friendly lift positioning, and natural light enhancing circulation.
Internal courtyards bring light into the duplex, which is especially beneficial for a north-west facing home. Even compact cut-outs improve airflow and create visual interest.
Double-height volumes add openness and visual connectivity across levels.
Every Design Thoughts home includes indoor-outdoor connections—here through semi-covered family spaces.
Elevation Breakdown: Reviving Classical Architecture
The planning introduced multiple balconies and projections—ideal for developing a striking classical home elevation with grandeur.
Classical Elevation Elements
• Tall Columns & Pilasters: Fluted detailing with capital-style heads
• Cornices & String Courses: Layered in proportion to reinforce the hierarchy
• Ashlar Stone Cladding: Adds depth and a premium classical finish
• Wrought-Iron Railings: Intricate florals typical of European classical styles
• Projected Balcony Edges: Profiled mouldings enhancing richness
The lighting plan includes wall sconces and highlight fixtures across levels, emphasizing classical depth during nighttime.
West-Facing Elevation
This elevation forms the primary frontage:
• A prominent nameplate
• Vehicular entry
• Full-height moulding bands with detailed lighting and chandelier points
• Grand classical styling across all floors
North-Facing Elevation
The north side features the pedestrian entry and carries the same classical geometry, pilasters, balcony trims, and projection language.
The south and east elevations extend the classical language to wrap the utility and staircase zones.
Wrapping Up
For this 40 × 50 sq. ft corner plot, designing a classical home elevation was a rewarding experience. The residence now stands like a modest palatial home, complete with indoor-outdoor pockets and enduring classical charm.
