Planning and Visualisation
The planning phase began with the client’s requirement—to build a home for their parents. Two layout options were explored, both featuring unique staircase designs. The ground floor includes open living, dining, and kitchen spaces, along with a parent’s bedroom for ease of access.
The first floor houses three bedrooms, with the master bedroom facing west. The terrace level has been prepared for future expansion, making the home adaptable to changing family needs.
An open-plan layout was used to enhance movement and flexibility. This design minimises walls, creating a spacious and connected home environment.
A skylight above the staircase allows light to cascade through the levels, creating a visual connection between floors. The U-shaped kitchen follows the working triangle of hob, sink, and refrigerator, ensuring efficiency.
Elevation Exploration and Curve Concept Design
The clients played an active role in finalising the design. They explored modern and curve concept elevation options before choosing the latter. Safety concerns were addressed with the addition of metal grills that seamlessly integrate into the curved structure.
The curved balcony cover provides shade and structural support for the elevation. Additionally, a metal compound wall wraps around the exterior staircase, enhancing privacy and form.tions
Climate & Ventilation: Responding to Local Context
his west-facing home demanded climate-responsive strategies to address harsh afternoon sunlight. The curve concept acts as a fin wall, shielding the structure from direct heat.
Shading devices, deep balcony overhangs, grill screens, and planters reduce heat gain.
The L-shaped balcony on the master bedroom ensures shaded interiors.
Skylight placement helps bring natural light into central spaces.
Material & Envelope Considerations
To enhance thermal comfort and longevity:
- Materials with high thermal efficiency and sound insulation were selected.
- Reflective coatings and appropriate fenestration improve indoor comfort.
- The curve concept elevation wraps around the building like a shading envelope.
Concluding Thoughts
This gated community residence is designed to stand apart from its neighbours—just as the clients envisioned. By combining functionality, aesthetics, and the curve concept, the home promises comfort, climate responsiveness, and timeless appeal.
When executed with precision, this project will result in a home that is livable today and adaptable for tomorrow. Attention to detail in furniture, curves, and construction will be key to bringing this design to life.
