Introducing the American Style of Bungalow Design in Bangalore-
Imagine a dream beginning to take shape with guidance from different continents. Our story begins with a client who once called New York home but now yearned to create his haven in the heart of Bangalore. The allure of the American-style bungalow design caught his attention, igniting a vision to blend this aesthetic with his native roots. This narrative encapsulates the essence of an architectural journey, where East meets West, and aspirations intertwine with design.
A Fusion of Cultures on a 90x80 Plot:
Nestled within Bangalore’s vibrant streets, a family of parents, children, and a dedicated wife found themselves at the crossroads of tradition and modernity. A generously sized plot measuring 90 feet by 80 feet was their canvas. The challenge? To translate their American-inspired dream into reality within these dimensions. As the property mirrored their expectations, a unique dialogue between space and imagination unfolded.
Embracing Minimalism in Ferns Meadows:
Imagine living in the heart of a busy city where everything is fast and loud. Now think about a peaceful place called Ferns Meadows, a safe community in Hennur. A family decided to make this place their home. They wanted a unique house, a quiet escape from the noisy city, and a bungalow design. They chose a simple and practical design style called minimalism. This style combines clean and neat lines with functionality.
The family’s background in IT and education influenced their choices, making them lean towards practical, organised, and efficient designs. The family’s expertise went beyond their regular jobs. They had previously designed a CEO’s home in New York City. This experience guided them as they navigated the complexities of construction. For their home, he prioritised functionality over mere aesthetics while believing in the power of meticulous preparation.
The journey from apartment to independent home:
Moving from a luxurious 3BHK apartment at Elita Promenade in JP Nagar to building their own home showcased their growth. As the walls rose and rooms took shape, this bungalow design became more than a house. It turned into a realisation of their dreams.
Prepare for a captivating narrative centred on the magic of American bungalow architecture. This story is about dreams, aspirations, and bricks and mortar merging into something extraordinary. Curious to discover what lies within? Read more to learn about the enchanting interior spaces.
Foyer area-
The entrance space welcomes you with calm and soothing colours. A mirror decoration on the wall adds a touch of elegance. A modern, slim white table stands close to the door, offering both storage and a stylish look. And to add that finishing touch, there’s a lovely indoor plant in one corner, adding life and beauty to the room.

Double-height Living Area:
The living room in this bungalow design is like the heart of the home, where the family loves to gather. They wanted it to feel light and spacious, with lots of natural light and fresh air. So, our Design Thoughts Architects team devised a clever plan to bring in more sunlight and breeze through horizontal openings like skylights and large windows.
We made the living room extra special by creating a high ceiling and adding large glass French doors and windows that open to the garden area. It’s like a part of their old home is here. We made it so you can feel both inside and outside at once.
Open floor concept:
This bungalow design is all about having ample open space. Imagine the living area, the kitchen, and the dining area all flowing together without any walls in between. This makes everything feel bright and connected. These three spaces are always bright because of the double-height ceilings and large windows that let the natural light in.
Kitchen area-
Step into the kitchen, a genius in a layout known as the parallel style. It’s like a space magician, using every inch to its fullest potential. We’ve added a breakfast counter on the other side to make things even more convenient. The French doors on the east side let in lots of sunlight. So, whether you’re brewing your morning coffee or prepping dinner, they’ve got sunshine on their side, making the kitchen the brightest spot.
Dining Area:
Slide from the kitchen to the dining area like a seamless journey. The huge dining table can accommodate seven people comfortably. The colours here are soft and relaxing, mostly beige and white. We’ve added a breakfast counter on the other side to make things even more convenient. The special French doors on the east side let in lots of sunlight. This means the kitchen will always be bright because of the sunlight coming in from the outside. The stairs are adjacent to the dining area so that the family can go up and down from the dining area.
Single beam stringer staircase:
We designed a special kind of staircase here, often called a floating staircase. Our architects used the space underneath it well by creating a mini library. The little library can serve various functions, including storing books, accessories, and artefacts. It is an intelligent way to make use of waste space.
Guest bedroom-
The guest bedroom is a bright and cosy place, filled with natural light from massive windows, making it warm and welcoming. Soft colours paint the walls, making the room feel inviting and comfortable. It’s a place where their guests will feel right at home.
Lobby area-
The guest bedroom is a bright and cosy place. Oversized windows let in lots of sunlight, making it warm and welcoming. We painted the walls with soft colours to make the room inviting and comfortable. A round skylight that brings in daylight from up high. This way, we get even more light flooding in.
Master bedroom-
The master bedroom upstairs feels friendly and open. It has many windows and spaces that bring in sunlight and clean air. There’s even a special outdoor area connected to this bedroom. Many want a balcony with their bedroom. The couple wanted a comfy spot, so we kept the room plain and added some decorations.
The big closet you can walk into is close to the bathroom, so it’s simple to reach. We designed the TV area with simplicity using a neutral colour palette. We positioned the window perfectly to flood the room with sunlight, bringing the feel of sunshine directly inside.
Son's Bedroom-
We’ve also set up the son’s bedroom on the first floor, just like the master bedroom. The son wanted his room to be modern and bright in a bungalow design. He loves natural light, so we made sure there was lots of it. His wish was our command, and we created the room exactly how he wanted it. Plus, we added a big balcony to his room as he wanted an outdoor place to enjoy the view and relax.
