Designing a Duplex House
A professional couple from the IT industry, their daughter, and their parents were searching for a dream home. They were clear about their need – a minimalistic , beautifully designed duplex house that would cater to all their needs.
They wanted a minimalistic duplex home plan with skylights and an indoor landscape, with most of their time spent in the living and bedroom areas. They approached Design Thoughts Architects to help them achieve this goal within a tight 12-month deadline.
The husband grew up in a traditional house-like ambience and wanted a skylight above the pooja and a living space nearby. He emphasized the importance of having a free flow and fewer partitions in the house, which we kept in mind while designing the space.
The Family's Need For a Duplex House-
We addressed the family’s primary concern of fitting a family of five into a limited 1200 square feet space by designing a stunning duplex house that could comfortably accommodate everyone, including their parents.
Our team crafted a custom plan that catered to their specific needs, resulting in a spacious 3 BHK house measuring 30×40 feet and facing east. We included a parking area and a room with an attached toilet on the ground floor. The first floor boasted a luxurious living room, kitchen, dining area, utility room, pooja room, and an additional bedroom. The second floor featured the master bedroom with a walk-in wardrobe and toilet, a balcony, two bedrooms, and even a small study if space permitted. Finally, the beautiful open terrace offered a lush garden area.
The Experience After Collaboration-
The family was thrilled with their new duplex house design, and we are very proud to have created such a beautiful space that met all their needs within the tight deadline. Their dream home was now a reality, where they could live comfortably with their loved ones and make many happy memories.
According to the Client-

If you are keen to explore this remarkable home and understand how they all work together in harmony, we invite you to check out the following portfolio. It is an excellent way to see how we brought our client’s vision to life and created a space that truly feels like home.
Main Gate-
The facade and main gate of the building feature mild steel slats, maintaining a consistent and minimalistic design throughout the front elevation. The slats fit perfectly with the rest of the building’s design, giving it a sleek and modern look. The mild steel slats are vital to the building’s aesthetic appeal because of their clean lines and simple look. The design element is striking and functional, from the entrance to the outside walls.
The External Staircase-
The external staircase leads right to the main entrance of the house. The stunning teak wood main door’s beautiful finish immediately catches your eye. This door is both practical and a true work of art, perfectly complementing the architectural design. Also, the slit windows in the door allow fresh air and natural light to flow, creating a comfortable and inviting atmosphere.
Main Door and Foyer-
The moment you step inside, you are greeted with a warm and inviting atmosphere, thanks to the large window in front of you. The internal staircase on the east side further enhances this welcoming feeling. As the morning sun shines through, the entire space is filled with natural light, creating a bright and cheerful environment for the family. It is a perfect spot to start the day and set the tone for a positive and productive day.
Modern Open Living Area with Pooja Room-
Since the family holds a strong spiritual inclination, utmost attention was given to the pooja area. The pooja area has a double-height structure to highlight its significance. This elevated pooja area brings about a remarkable transformation in the overall appearance of the space with ample sunlight from the skylight. The hall adjoining the pooja space exudes a cosy atmosphere.
The skylight steals the spotlight as the ultimate showstopper, captivating all guests during the housewarming. It illuminates the entire space with natural light, accentuating the architectural elements that make the house unique.
Kitchen and Staircase-
As you approach the kitchen, you cannot help but notice the stylish and sophisticated staircase nearby. The staircase effortlessly blends into the kitchen area, adding to the home’s overall aesthetic. The vertical slats that separate the two areas create a clean and sleek look and serve as a striking design element in the space.
The modern and elegant modular kitchen has a charming pastel colour palette. The marbles used in the kitchen are the perfect finishing touch. The kitchen is a true masterpiece, combining functionality and style to create a practical and beautiful space.
A Spacious Utility Area-
The family wanted a big, secure utility room that looked nice and was easy to access from the kitchen. As the sun rises, the blinds cast semi-shaded, beautiful, moving patterns over the area, adding to its beauty. The utility area is designed with ample space, allowing various storage options and activities.

Open Terrace and Balcony Area-
The open terrace of this duplex house offers an incredible view, making it a true gem.
