Front elevation of Mr Rajesh’s abode
A modern traditional house is one that speaks both of deep-rooted cultural heritage and the evolving comforts of contemporary living. This recent project of ours, set in serene surroundings in Bangalore, is a harmonious visual of contrast, rustic charm, and refined design philosophy. This 40×60 villa design with a slope roof makes a distinct impression with its traditional exterior and modern nuances.
The exterior is a juxtaposition of brick, concrete finish, and stone texture that brings together both traditional and modern aesthetics. These contrasting elements are not merely stylistic—they reflect a thoughtful integration of old and new. The result is a modern traditional house façade that feels both welcoming and refined.
Facade Design and Material Palette
The elevation brings a rich medley of exposed brickwork, handpicked local stone, and cast-in-place concrete. Each material serves both aesthetic and functional roles, layered to create texture, depth, and visual harmony.
The brick façade, with its timeless appeal, bestows the exterior with a rhythmic and organic presence. Used in both horizontal courses and vertical accents, it gives the home an earthy, lived-in quality that matures gracefully.
Stone, rough-hewn and raw, anchors the front window and adds a grounded, textured element to the composition.
Concrete provides a contemporary edge to the traditional elements—clean, linear, and contrasting in both texture and tone, giving the overall design its modern traditional house identity.
Each material complements the others, resulting in a warm and cohesive exterior. The thoughtful combination of brick and concrete also defines the semi-open and terrace spaces under the roof eaves, ensuring both safety and spatial flow for the family.
Interior Planning with Traditional Spatial Principles
The interiors are planned with precision and brought to life through a detailed spatial presentation that helps the client visualize the home in 3D. This modern traditional house features a step-down living area—a design element reminiscent of an open courtyard, perfect for family interactions within a slope-roofed villa.
A traditional exterior with a slope roof evokes nostalgia and vernacular architecture. The double-height living space offers views of the roof’s form from within, creating a deep architectural experience.
Inspired by east-facing Vastu principles, the layout respects traditional spatial orientation while fulfilling modern family needs. The slope roof, finished with clay tiles, also supports sustainable practices like rainwater harvesting and passive insulation.
Inside, the pitched ceiling over the bedrooms adds to the volume and spatial drama, while clerestory windows allow natural daylight to flood in, reducing the need for artificial lighting.

Key Areas We Loved Designing in This Modern Traditional House:
1. A double-height living room connecting both levels visually and socially
2. A custom concrete staircase with warm wooden accents—elegant, durable, and minimal
3. Natural cross-ventilation and passive cooling, with indoor-outdoor flow through landscaped pockets
4. Balcony greens and spill-out spaces that bring nature into the home
5. A highlighting feature wall framing the folded plate staircase
6. A partition wall thoughtfully separating the living and dining zones
A highlighting feature wall is accommodated for the folded plate staircase along with that we see an attractive partition wall demarcating the living and dining areas
The client also requested a separate lift with a skylight above to flood the vertical space with daylight. Private spaces including bedrooms are planned on the upper floors, while the ground level is reserved for public and semi-public interactions. A dedicated Puja room on the ground floor aligns with the client’s Vastu-centric preferences.
