Walking Through an Art Deco Style Gated Community

The clients brought a fresh perspective to our design process with their unique requirements and real estate background. Their aspiration was to create an appealing elevation inspired by the Art Deco style for a gated community in a prime city location. Their preference for a budget-friendly yet striking frontage that stands out to buyers shaped our approach from the beginning.

Project Factfile

    • Plot dimensions: 40’ x 60’

    • Plot size: 2400 sq. ft.

    • Type: Gated-community villas

    • Floors: G+1 residence

    • Location: Earth Aroma Properties, Dyavarahalli, Bangalore

    • Designers: Ar. Zainab, Ar. Luqman, Ar. Antiksh, Ar. Mahantesh

Design Development

From our initial discussions, it was clear that the clients had a strong vision rooted in modern-contemporary and Art Deco style elevations. Their requirements for privacy, parking, and visual appeal guided the design for this G+1 residence.

Understanding the Planning

As this is primarily an elevation-based exploration, we focused on what appears at the front façade rather than full floor plans. The main entry is strategically placed on the side of each villa to maintain privacy within the gated community.

The front elevation features master bedrooms and walk-in closets across floors. On the terrace level, a partial terrace along with an additional bedroom adds volume to the façade.

On the ground floor, the front elevation includes the kitchen and utility areas, with a horizontal-view window to maintain symmetry. The walk-in wardrobes feature a fixed glass element that continues vertically through all floors—this became a prominent detail in the Art Deco style elevation. Balconies and terrace cut-outs further enhance the overall design.

Elevation Options

To align with the client’s expectations, we designed two distinct elevation options.

Option 1 – Modern-Contemporary Style

A minimal elevation with clean lines, white and brown colour palette, and a brick jaali feature on the first floor. Simple yet elegant but the clients wanted a design that felt more expressive and timeless.

Option 2 – Art Deco Style Elevation

The second option explored a complete Art Deco style—rounded balcony edges, layered projections, subtle colour combinations, and modern materials.

Key highlights:

  • Master bedroom balconies with arch-like projections

  • Landscaping-integrated nameplate and compound wall design

  • Walk-in wardrobe block positioned against a double-height curved façade

  • Brick texture used alternately on ground and first floors to break visual monotony

The clients selected the Art Deco style design and even requested a video walkthrough of the street showing their confidence in this design approach.

Wrapping Up

This project was a milestone it not only delivered what the clients envisioned but also introduced a distinctive Art Deco style elevation into a modern gated community. Each home retains privacy while adding cohesive character to the streetscape.
